Rep. Katko Celebrates Passage of Bipartisan Chips Plus Act

Statement

U.S. Rep. John Katko (NY-24) issued the following statement on the U.S. House passage of the bipartisan, bicameral CHIPS Plus Act:

Today's vote on the CHIPS Plus Act represents a historic leap forward for investment in American innovation and national security, and I was proud to help pass this bill in a bipartisan manner and send it to the President's desk. This legislation sends a clear message that the best days of American manufacturing are still ahead of us, and I am excited by the strong potential that funding and tax incentives provided under this bill will jumpstart transformational investment in Central New York. Additionally, as Ranking Member on the House Homeland Security Committee, I am pleased that this legislation will help secure our supply chain for domestic semiconductor production and ensure that we are not reliant on our adversaries, like the Chinese Communist Party, for critical technologies.

Notably, I am deeply disheartened that Congressional Democrats have decided to immediately turn around from the success of the CHIPS Plus Act and take up a separate, partisan reconciliation bill that raises taxes. Congress should not follow a bipartisan measure to bring back American jobs with partisan tax increases that push businesses back out, especially as our economy officially enters a recession. I will vigorously oppose this measure and urge my colleagues to do the same.
