Congresswoman Tenney's Statement on Passage of House Spending Bills

Press Release

Date: July 20, 2022
Location: Washington, DC

Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-22) today released the following statement regarding the House's passage of six appropriations bills for fiscal year 2023 (FY23). The bills included funding for Transportation and Housing and Urban Development; Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration; Energy and Water Development; Financial Services and General Government; Interior and Environment; and Military Construction and Veterans Affairs.

"Even with 40-year high inflation, House Democrats are still refusing to take this economic crisis seriously. Energy and living costs have reached record highs, and Speaker Pelosi and President Joe Biden's policies are the driving cause. Even the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) attributed 3% of inflation to last year's reckless and untargeted $1.9 trillion Democrat spending boondoggle.

"Instead of addressing these problems, today House Democrats instead forced a vote on an appropriations package that does nothing to deliver immediate relief to Americans. It increases federal spending, strips out critical provisions prohibiting taxpayer-funded abortions, and incentivizes further illegal immigration. It's out-of-touch and grossly irresponsible.

"I will continue to wholeheartedly oppose these radical policies."

Some of the Appropriations Bill's Worst Provisions:

14% increase for non-defense programs, including the left's radical climate agenda
Removes bipartisan language prohibiting taxpayer-funded abortions
Kills American energy independence by restricting new offshore oil and gas activities and includes new onerous taxes on energy producers
Encourages illegal immigration by prohibiting immigration checks on residents of HUD-assisted housing
Continues to support the creation of a woke and unaccountable Civilian Climate Corps
Includes a 20% increase for the EPA, amounting to an additional $2 billion
Includes a $1 billion increase for the IRS
