Reps. Kildee, Pascrell, Sewell Applaud New Commerce Report on Solar Panels Produced by Chinese Companies

Press Release

Date: Dec. 2, 2022
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05), Chief Deputy Whip of the House Democratic Caucus, Congressman Bill Pascrell (NJ-09), Chairman of the Ways and Means Subcommittee on Oversight, and Congresswoman Terri Sewell (AL-07) released the following statement after the United States Department of Commerce announced preliminary findings that Chinese solar companies are evading U.S. tariffs:

"Today's announcement by the Department of Commerce confirms our suspicions that Chinese solar companies are evading American trade law to hurt American solar companies and workers. American workers can outcompete anyone, but only if there is a fair playing field. Right now, they are facing unfair competition from Chinese solar companies that benefit from illegal subsidies, forced labor practices, and are circumventing trade enforcement laws. We applaud the Department of Commerce for following the law and conducting a fact-based investigation to expose these harmful practices. In light of these findings, the suspension of tariffs in the Solar Emergency Declaration should be immediately rescinded. Otherwise, we are allowing Chinese solar companies to circumvent our trade laws without penalty. Repealing this rule is needed to stand up for American solar companies and their workers."
