Moolenaar Stands Up for Americans' Second Amendment Rights

Press Release

Date: Sept. 27, 2022
Issues: Guns

Congressman John Moolenaar and 100 members of Congress have written letters to the CEOs of American Express, Visa, and Mastercard asking questions about their companies' plans to monitor and report the gun purchases of law-abiding citizens. The companies' plans come after liberal activist groups pressured the credit card companies to create new designations for gun purchases.

"This new classification of gun purchases is a dangerous breach of the privacy Americans expect when they buy something from a business. Liberal activists are already planning to use this new information to report their fellow citizens to law enforcement for the very act of exercising their Second Amendment right to own firearms. What other purchases will these credit card companies report to liberal activists next? This is unacceptable and these companies must be held accountable for their decisions," said Congressman Moolenaar.

On September 9, Amalgamated Bank CEO Priscilla Sims Brown said her bank will use the new codes to report what she says is "suspicious activity" to the authorities." Amalgamated Bank is owned by Workers United, a subsidiary of the SEIU.
