Shelby: FAA Awards $3.69 Million for Local Airport Improvements in Alabama

U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.) today released the following statement applauding approximately $3.69 million in Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grant funding for four local airports. Awarded by the U.S. Department of Transportation, the grants are designated for various improvements and advances to local airport infrastructure and administered through the fiscal year 2022 Airport Improvement Program, which was funded in the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2022.

"This $3.69 million in FAA funding will improve the overall functionality and safety of each of these Alabama airports, setting them up for further growth and success down the line," said Senator Shelby. "By improving infrastructure and updating master plans, these four local and regional airports stand to add even more economic value to their respective communities and the state at large."

The four FAA grants were awarded to four local airports in Alabama, amounting to $3,689,710 for the following projects:

Huntsville International Airport-Carl T. Jones Field, Huntsville, Alabama -- $1,389,343 to rehabilitate an access road
Northwest Alabama Regional Airport, Muscle Shoals, Alabama -- $1,111,205 to reconstruct runway lighting
Tuscaloosa National Airport, Tuscaloosa, Alabama -- $1,054,163 to reconstruct an apron
St. Elmo Airport, St. Elmo, Alabama -- $134,999 to update the airport master plan
