Palazzo Announces 2022 Congressional App Challenge Winner

Congressman Steven Palazzo (MS-4) announced the Congressional App Challenge (CAC) winner for Mississippi's Fourth Congressional District. The Congressional App Challenge's mission is to inspire, include, and innovate efforts around STEM, coding, and computer science education.

"Congratulations to Eli Young, south Mississippi's 2022 Congressional App Challenge winner! Eli created 'Kids Knack' to help young kids get ahead at school. He used complex block code to create an app that uses mammal facts, fruit facts, and basic knowledge to excite young children about learning.

"Eli recognized an education gap, got creative, faced challenges, and worked hard to create this app at school and home. I hope other young Mississippians follow his lead and become interested in STEM fields. I am proud to represent the fourth district and the young leaders like Eli, who make our future so bright. Great work!" said Congressman Palazzo.

The Congressional App Challenge is an official initiative of the U.S. House of Representatives, where Members of Congress host contests in their districts for middle school and high school students, encouraging them to learn to code and inspiring them to pursue careers in computer science. Each participating Member of Congress selects a winning app from their district, and each winning team is invited to showcase their winning app to Congress during our annual #HouseOfCode festival.

This year's competition set the record for most student registrations, most apps submitted, most apps per district submitted, and most districts receiving over 20 apps. The wildly successful competition continues to impress upon House Members the importance of computer science education and the need to develop a pipeline of diverse, domestic STEM talent.
