Location: Washington, DC

Today, on the first anniversary of President Biden's landmark Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, otherwise known as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, U.S. Representative Emanuel Cleaver, II (D-MO), who was the only Representative from Missouri to support the law, highlighted the historic federal investments that are already creating good-paying jobs and strengthening communities across Missouri.

"At a time when our country is bitterly divided, the American people expect Congress to come together, seek common ground, and find a way to move the country forward. That's exactly what we were able to do with President Biden's Bipartisan Infrastructure Law last year, and I remain perpetually proud to have voted for the landmark legislation--which has already delivered $3.6 billion for more than 150 infrastructure projects across Missouri," said Congressman Cleaver. "These projects aren't just helping to pave better roads, rebuild crumbling bridges, deliver clean drinking water, and expand access to public transit, they're also creating good-paying jobs for working class Missourians across the state, helping to strengthen communities all over. As we continue to build on the extraordinary progress already achieved, I remain committed to working with the Biden Administration to ensure these historic investments reach communities in Missouri's Fifth District as quickly as possible."

Decades of underinvestment in critical infrastructure projects have left Missouri communities in urgent need of repair and modernization. According to a report from the American Society of Civil Engineers, Missouri's infrastructure was given an overall grade of C-, including D+ for our roads, a C for our bridges, and a C- for our drinking water.

The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is already delivering historic investments and making progress to improve Missouri's infrastructure, with more than $3.6 billion provided for a range of infrastructure improvements, including:

$2.8 billion for roads, bridges, roadway safety, and major projects;
$147 million for water infrastructure that will provide clean and safe drinking water;
$140 million for an expansion of public transportation options;
$106 million for infrastructure resilience, including $22.4 million for flood mitigation;
$54 million for airport improvements;
$36 million for ports and waterways to strengthen supply chains;
$35.7 million to create a network of EV chargers;
$21.8 million from the Clean School Bus Program; and more.

"Thanks to the President's ability to find compromise and achieve consensus in Congress through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the 2020s are set to be an "infrastructure decade' for Missouri and the rest of the United States," said Congressman Cleaver. "As this legislation has proven, putting people over politics leads to effective policy--and I remain laser-focused on passing bipartisan legislation that will help lower costs, create good-paying jobs, and build safer communities throughout my congressional district."
