Statement

Date: June 22, 2022
Location: Washington, DC

Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis (NY-11) and the National Parks Service (NPS) today announced the revival of a summer Kayaking Program in Gateway National Recreation Area on Staten Island which had been paused for several years. NPS will restart the program with a few events this year with the goal of having a more regular program next season.

"Kayaking is one of my favorite activities and I'm excited that, this summer, we can enjoy it right here in our community," Malliotakis said. "It'll be great to get back out on the water with experienced paddlers and beginners to explore nature and enjoy our waterfront."

"Experiencing Staten Island from the water gives you a completely different perspective on where we live," said Jennifer Nersesian, Superintendent of Gateway National Recreation Area. "We are happy to provide this opportunity to the public, and look forward to expanding this type of programming in the future."
