Rep. Kim's STEP Improvement Act to Support Small Business Exports Passes Committee

Today, the House Small Business Committee passed the State Trade Expansion Program (STEP) Improvement Act of 2022 (H.R. 8844), a bipartisan bill introduced last week by U.S. Reps. Young Kim (CA-39), Dwight Evans (PA-03), Mike Flood (NE-01) and Marie Newman (IL-03).

The STEP Improvement Act aims to increase the number of U.S. small businesses in exporting by:

Reauthorizing the STEP program for four fiscal years;
Improving the program by creating a standardized application process;
Boosting communication between the Small Business Administration (SBA) and states; and,
Collecting metrics on performance goals.

"Small businesses are the heartbeats and economic engines of our communities, creating jobs and contributing to our local economies. Our entrepreneurs deserve the support they need to grow their business and achieve their dream," said Kim. "The STEP Improvement Act allows small businesses to grow and expand into new markets by facilitating more exports of American goods and services. I'm proud to join Reps. Newman, Flood and Evans in a bipartisan effort to support our businesses and U.S. supply chains."
