Chairwoman Velázquez on September Jobs Report

Press Release

Today, House Small Business Committee Chairwoman Nydia M. Velázquez (D-NY) issued the following statement after the Labor Department released its September jobs report showing that non-farm payroll employment increased by 263,000:

"The September jobs report is more proof that the Biden Administration's economic agenda has our economy on the right track. Last month, our economy surpassed expectations by adding 263,000 new jobs. With this report, the overall unemployment rate sits at a 50-year low of 3.5%, while dropping to 3.8% for Hispanic workers, the lowest figure ever recorded. These numbers are a testament to the strength of our labor market and the effectiveness of the President's economic agenda. Jobs are up, wages are rising, and Americans are continuing to reenter the labor force.

"Our nation has added a record 10 million new jobs under the Biden Administration. This rapid jobs recovery would not have been possible without Democrats' actions to jump-start the economy through policies like the American Rescue Plan. Congressional Democrats have also paved the way for growth by enacting legislation like the Inflation Reduction Act, the CHIPS and Sciences Act, and the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. These policies will help create more jobs, lower costs for working families, and set our economy up for success in the future. Despite this tremendous progress, we must continue to push ahead. I look forward to continuing to work with the President and Congressional Democrats as we strive to create an economy that works for every American."
