House Energy and Commerce Republican Leader Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) and Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee Leader Gus Bilirakis (R-FL) released the following statement commending the passing of the bipartisan "Informing Consumers about Smart Devices Act" and the "Visit America Act."

"The legislation passed today will help support the U.S. travel and tourism industry and provide Americans with transparency for devices that have hidden microphones and cameras. We have seen tremendous advancement in the development of internet connected devices and technologies, and many of these technologies make everyday life more convenient. However, they also have the ability to collect data from their users without their knowledge. We applaud Rep. Curtis (R-UT), Rep. Multon (D-MA) for leading on the Informing Consumers about Smart Devices Act, and commend all of the sponsors and co-sponsors of travel and tourism legislation this Congress--which will ensure that vital sector makes a full recovery from the COVID-19 lockdowns."
