In Appropriations Subcommittee Markup, Rep. Susie Lee Blocks Funding for Yucca Mountain

Statement

Date: June 22, 2022
Location: Washington, D.C.

Rep. Susie Lee released the following statement after voting to advance the Fiscal Year 2023 Energy, Water, and Related Agencies appropriations bill:

"Since day one of serving on the Appropriations Committee, I've fought tooth and nail to ensure that not a dime goes to Yucca Mountain," said Rep. Susie Lee. "As I continue this year's appropriations process, I'll fight to keep nuclear waste out of our state because Nevada must never become the nation's dumping ground for nuclear waste."

This follows Rep. Lee's work with Department of Energy to block funding for Yucca Mountain and push the Administration toward consent-based siting. Rep. Lee successfully blocked all funding for nuclear waste storage at Yucca Mountain in the FY2022 budget. In last year's House Appropriations DOE budget hearing, Rep. Lee secured Secretary Granholm's commitment to pursue consent-based alternatives to Yucca Mountain.
