In Appropriations Markup, Rep. Lee Secures Critical Support for Capitol Police

Today, Rep. Susie Lee, a member of the House Appropriations Committee, voted to pass the fiscal year 2023 Legislative Branch funding bill out of the full Appropriations Committee. The bill includes multiple provisions that Rep. Lee has pushed for, including additional funding to support the Capitol Police and investments to expand congressional employment opportunities for veterans, members of Gold Star Families, and young people from all backgrounds and walks of life.

"Today, I was proud to vote to pass a funding bill that will support our Capitol Police officers who work tirelessly to keep us safe each and every day," said Rep. Lee. "This funding bill will support the hiring of additional Capitol Police officers and allow for enhanced training and mental health and wellness support, so they have the resources they need to do their jobs. This legislation will also expand internship and fellowship opportunities on Capitol Hill and in district offices, opening up opportunities for even more young people to gain valuable experience serving constituents."

The Legislative Branch funding bill:
* Increases funding to hire additional officers, improve training, and bolster wellness support for the Capitol Police.
* Makes investments in securing our Capitol Complex for the safety of Members of Congress, staff, and visitors.
* Provides funding for the Green and Gold Congressional Aide Program, formerly known as the Wounded Warrior and Congressional Gold Star Family Fellowship Programs.
* Expands internship opportunities for House interns, growing opportunities for working and middle-class families and increasing representation in the People's House.
* Provides the necessary increases to support the staffing and other resources needed by Congress to do its job well and best serve constituents.

The following amendment to the bill was adopted by the full Committee:

Rep. Ryan -- The manager's amendment makes technical and noncontroversial changes to the bill and report. The amendment was adopted by voice vote.
