Date: July 14, 2022
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Steven Palazzo (MS-4) and Congressman Brian Babin (TX-36) introduced H.R. 8371, the Border Bonds for America Act of 2022, to establish the Border Trust Fund in the Treasury Department, with proceeds going toward the construction of reinforced fencing, physical barriers, and related infrastructure for the southwest border with Mexico. This legislation aims to increase national security at our southwest border.

"Protecting our southern border protects every state in America, not just border states, and this legislation will help do just that," said Rep. Palazzo. "The Biden Administration has effectively ignored the crisis at our southwest border and has allowed its Department of Homeland Security to mismanage taxpayer dollars dedicated to the wall. The American People are sick and tired of our porous borders and the inability of a Democrat-controlled Washington to get things done."

"Physical barriers are proven to drastically decrease illegal border crossings. Yet, despite being in the midst of the most historic border crisis we've ever faced, President Biden refuses to build them," said Rep. Brian Babin, Co-Chair of the House Border Security Caucus. "Consequently, dangerous drug cartels are thriving while hard-working, law-abiding Americans suffer. This bill allows U.S. citizens to do what our current president will not: secure the border."

Both members of the House Border Security Caucus, Congressman Palazzo and Congressman Babin are dedicated to securing the southwest border. The Border Bonds for America Act of 2022 allows private citizens to donate directly to the Border Trust Fund, which would be instated upon the bill's passage. It creates a direct line for Americans to establish a more secure southwest border, therefore, creating a more secure country.
