Rep. Long Reacts to Supreme Court Ruling in Kennedy v. Bremerton School District

Statement

Date: June 27, 2022
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Constitution

Congressman Billy Long issued the following statement after the United States Supreme Court ruled in favor of a high school football coach fired for exercising his religion.

"Today, the Supreme Court correctly ruled that a local school district violated the First Amendment by firing a football coach for praying after games," Congressman Long said. "The First Amendment clearly protects an individual's right to freely exercise their sincerely held religious beliefs, and the fact that a school would fire someone for practicing their religion privately is totally un-American. Thankfully the Supreme Court ruled on the side of the U.S. Constitution here. No one should be fired for their religious belief. Period, end of story."
