Wagner: Chips production is good, but not when it makes Biden's recession worse

Statement

Location: Washington, DC

Congresswoman Ann Wagner (R-MO), Chair of the House Suburban Caucus, released the following statement on the Chips package:

"It was confirmed this morning that Joe Biden and his tax and spend policies have thrown the US into a recession, costing Missouri families more at the pump and the grocery store. It is utterly shocking that, during an economic crisis, Democrats insist on spending over a quarter trillion more of your taxpayer dollars. This legislation will not effectively address China's attempts to control the semiconductor industry, and in fact, contains insufficient guardrails to prevent funds from supporting the expansion of manufacturing in China. The semiconductor industry is vital to both our national security and our day to day lives, and when Republicans have the majority in Congress, we will make it a priority to address China's malign global influence and support American semiconductor manufacturing in a much more targeted and cost-effective manner.

"This legislation is irresponsible during this recession, especially when Chuck Schumer is on the verge of passing another nearly trillion-dollar bill that will increase taxes on Americans at a time of economic crisis."
