Jenniffer González Announces The Filing Of The Status Project

Statement

Date: July 13, 2022
Location: Washington, D.C.

"After months of work and much discussion, we managed to finalize what we announced in May as a draft project to resolve the political status of Puerto Rico.

In a collaborative effort and after receiving the input of the people of Puerto Rico, we move on to the next phase, which is to present a final project, take it to the vote of the Committee on Natural Resources and then to the plenary session of the House of Representatives at the end of July, already Senate at the beginning of August".

Congress remains firm that the Commonwealth is not a decolonizing option, so the three options of the binding plebiscite contained in the project remain Statehood, Independence, and Sovereignty in Free Association with the United States.

The people of Puerto Rico have overwhelmingly voted for Statehood in the last three plebiscites and this project is the self-executing vehicle that Congress provides to achieve it without further delay.

The time has come to achieve Statehood! There is no going back, this project will be the final decision for the people".
