Issues: Energy

Senator Maggie Hassan today joined her colleagues in voting to pass a bill to continue government funding. Senator Hassan also helped to secure $1 billion in emergency funding for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) in the bill, in order to help bring down energy costs for Granite Staters.

"I am pleased that we came together today on a bipartisan basis to prevent a government shutdown. I am also proud that our bill includes new funding that will help Granite Staters and Americans afford to heat their homes as we approach colder months -- this is a critical priority that Granite Staters have raised with me as they face rising costs, and it's important that additional funding will go to New Hampshire through the LIHEAP program. I'll keep working to bring down costs for Granite State families," said Senator Hassan.

The Union Leader recently covered Senator Hassan's work behind the scenes to secure LIHEAP funding, noting "Sen. Maggie Hassan, D-N.H., had been negotiating with senators of both political parties from the hardest-hit states affected by soaring prices of natural gas linked to the war in Ukraine."
