The Game Plan for Reproductive Rights

Statement

Now more than ever before, we need a gameplan and a full-throttled attack. Words aren't enough. We need to mobilize and take action. Here's my three-step plan to begin our response to this despicable decision.

Step 1: Call on the people in power. Congress must codify Roe v. Wade immediately to protect the millions of women whose states will ban abortion (or have already). We've already passed the Women's Health Protection Act to enshrine these protections in the House -- and I proudly stand by my 100% pro-choice record.. I encourage you to call your Senators and encourage them to get on board as well. Thankfully, Marylanders have allies in Senators Cardin and Van Hollen, but other states aren't so lucky.

Step 2: Mobilize to elect those who will protect reproductive rights and stand up against those who won't. No matter how hard we try to codify Roe now, it's unlikely to get through the Senate. So we need to vote out everyone who stands in our way. In my race for Congress in a newly-drawn, highly competitive district, I'm up against a conservative fanatic who is celebrating the loss of reproductive freedom for women. Over the coming months, I'll be working every day to keep him out of Washington, and partnering with campaigns up and down the ballot while I do it.

Step 3: Donate to organizations working to provide critical reproductive healthcare to women. Over the past few days, I'm sure you've heard from countless politicians asking for your money. While I appreciate the support I've received from so many, right now it's better spent directly supporting the organizations doing good throughout our community. Here are a few that could use our help:

Planned Parenthood -- Every year, they provide reproductive health services to hundreds of thousands of women, including abortions, contraception, cancer screenings, and more. They're the largest provider of women's health services in America, and they're under attack. They need our help.
NARAL Pro-Choice America -- They're working each day to expand access to abortion, combat misinformation designed to trick women seeking an abortion, expand access to birth control and paid family leave, and more.
National Women's Law Center -- They're advocating for reproductive freedom in states across the country, fighting trigger laws, outright bans, and working with media and entertainment outlets to fight misinformation and tell the truth about women's health.
I hope you'll join me in this fight. Completing these three steps will only take a few minutes -- but it will make a huge difference. We can't wait around for someone else to step up to the plate. It's on all of us to take action now.
