Rep. Omar Passes 9 Amendments in House Minibus Package

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) sponsored nine amendments that passed today in the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act.

"I am proud the House passed nine of my amendments," said Rep. Omar. "These critical investments made in the final package will help fight against inflation and the lower the cost of living for Minnesotans. The amendments include an assessment of the long-term economic outcomes of the low-Income Housing Tax Credit, calls to end the stigmatization of children who are unable to pay for school meals, and ensures the Department of Energy's Loan Program is providing loans only to clean energy projects."

Division A (THUD)

Omar #82: Evaluates the long-term economic outcomes of tenants and communities affected by LIHTC developments

Division B (Ag)

Omar #72: Emphasizes the importance of year-round access to school meals and prohibits the stigmatization of children who are unable to pay for school meals.
Omar #73: Emphasizes the importance of providing educational information in various languages regarding the use of SNAP benefits online.

Division C (Energy and Water Development)

Omar #75: Emphasizes the importance of conducting a comprehensive study and consideration of the climate change and environmental justice impacts of proposed fossil fuel energy and pipeline projects.
Omar #76: Clarifies that the Department of Energy's Section 1703 Loan Program is providing loans only to clean energy projects that avoid, reduce, or sequester air pollutants or human-caused emissions of greenhouse gases.

Division D (FSGG)

Carson/Omar #155: Assists schools, nonprofits, and localities in developing financial literacy programs for young people and families.
Omar #103: Calls the CFPB and Treasury to study the potential rise of charge-off and delinquency rates in the current economy and help consumers resolve mistaken or longstanding negative information on their credit reports
Omar #105: Addresses de-risking and banking access issues faced by Muslim Americans and immigrant communities

Division E (Interior and Environment)

Omar #115: Emphasizes the importance of honoring treaties and conducting true and meaningful government-to-government consultation with Native Nations, Tribes, and Indigenous communities.

The appropriations package creates jobs by rebuilding critical infrastructure, grows opportunity through homeownership and rental assistance, and promotes safe transportation and public housing by providing $90.9 billion for the Departments of Transportation and Housing and Urban Development and related agencies.

The bill tackles hunger, lifts up farmers and rural communities, rebuilds our public health and safety infrastructure, and confronts the climate crisis with $27.2 billion for the Department of Agriculture -- including rural development programs -- the Food and Drug Administration, and related agencies.

The appropriations package lowers costs for working families, creates good-paying jobs, invests in clean energy, and rebuilds water infrastructure, providing $56.275 billion for the Department of Energy, the Army Corps of Engineers and Bureau of Reclamation, and related agencies.

The bill grows opportunity and helps small business owners and middle-class families get ahead by providing $29.8 billion for the Department of the Treasury, The Judiciary, the Election Assistance Commission, the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the Federal Trade Commission, and other government agencies.

The funding bill creates jobs, confronts climate change, supports infrastructure on tribal lands, and ensures access to safe drinking water with $44.8 billion for the Department of the Interior, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the Indian Health Services.

The bill protects our national security, upholds our commitments to servicemembers, veterans, and their families, and rebuilds our infrastructure, providing $314.1 billion for military construction, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and related agencies. For the first time ever, the spending bill separates VA Medical Care into its own funding category to better meet the needs of our veterans.
