PHILLIPS ON PASSAGE OF THE WOMEN'S HEALTH PROTECTION ACT

Statement

Issues: Women Abortion

Today, Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN) issued the following statement on the passage of two women's health bills, the Women's Health Protection Act of 2022 and the Ensuring Access to Abortion Act:

"Freedom is the very foundation of our United States, and like most Americans, I believe the promises of freedom and privacy extend to women as they make deeply personal decisions about their own bodies and futures. I voted to limit the government's ability to encroach on women's reproductive rights today -- including abortion -- because ideological politics have no place in the exam room," Phillips said.

"Abortion is health care, and I will protect women's right to choose it using every tool our Founders afforded us. I also stand ready to work with anyone in Congress who is ready to support women, children, and families -- and in doing so, reduce the demand for abortion in this country. In my estimation, equitable access to health care, childcare, contraception, and paid leave is what makes a nation pro-life. Let's get to work."
