Statement by Congressman Kildee on New Federal Health Warnings of PFAS

Statement

Date: June 15, 2022
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Dan Kildee, Chief Deputy Whip of the House Democratic Caucus and co-chair of the Bipartisan Congressional PFAS Task Force, issued the following statement after the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency issued new health advisories for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances in drinking water:

"Too many Michigan communities have been affected by dangerous PFAS chemicals. I applaud President Biden for taking action to protect communities from these forever chemicals. Today's acknowledgment that there is no safe level of certain types of PFAS, including PFOA and PFOS, is a significant step in recognizing how dangerous these forever chemicals are.

"Every American deserves clean drinking water. In Congress, Republicans and Democrats are working together to clean up PFAS, hold polluters accountable and prevent future contamination. In the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the Bipartisan Congressional PFAS Task Force was able to secure $5 billion to protect our drinking water from PFAS chemicals and protect the Great Lakes. I will continue fighting to clean up toxic PFAS chemicals and ensure Michiganders and communities impacted by PFAS can get the resources they need."
