Statement By Congressman Kildee Following Celebration of Inflation Reduction Act

Statement

Date: Sept. 13, 2022
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Dan Kildee, Chief Deputy Whip of the House Democratic Caucus, issued the following statement today to celebrate the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act:

"The Inflation Reduction Act is now law and is already helping lower costs for Michigan families and seniors.

"With this new law, we took on special interests and won. For the first time ever, Medicare can negotiate with pharmaceutical companies to lower drug prices, benefitting those on Medicare and with private insurance. This new law also caps out of pocket drug costs for seniors at $2,000 a year, and includes my legislation to cap the cost of insulin at $35 per month for seniors.

"The Inflation Reduction Act is fiscally responsible, fully paid for and lowers the national deficit. We do so by making the biggest corporations pay their fair share in taxes. A Flint assembly worker, or a Saginaw teacher or a Bay City nurse shouldn't pay more in taxes than wealthy corporations."
