Bilirakis Promotes "all of the Above" Energy Policy as Part of Plan to Rebuild American Energy Independence During Recent Visit to Local Energy Provider

Press Release

Date: Aug. 8, 2022
Location: Safety Harbor, Florida
Issues: Energy

Congressman Gus Bilirakis (R-FL), who serves as a senior member of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce which has jurisdiction over federal energy policy, visited Calibrant Energy in Safety Harbor today to learn more about how local energy providers are playing an important role in boosting energy capacity throughout the country and enhancing energy resilience of critical infrastructure during emergency situations. With record increases in gas prices and historically-high cost of energy, Congressman Bilirakis has heard from countless Floridians pleading for relief. Bilirakis believes we can regain American energy independence, create American jobs, and lower prices by implementing pro-growth, common sense policies. He has co-sponsored the American Energy Independence from Russia Act, and has been a vocal critic of the Biden Administration's war on domestic energy production. Congressman Bilirakis embraces an "all of the above" energy strategy which includes: increasing domestic production by eliminating barriers for producers, reducing carbon emissions by boosting renewable energy options, and modernizing the nation's power generation. Just like all Floridians, Congressman Bilirakis wants clean air, clean water, and a pristine environment; however, those goals cannot be achieved at the expense of jobs, prosperity, and national security. Restoring American Energy Independence, like building the Keystone Pipeline, is important for the nation's economic health but also is a vital matter of national security.

"As we grapple with energy affordability and our responsibilities to the future, we need to encourage energy innovation and pursue an "all-of-the-above' approach," said Bilirakis. "New and emerging technologies will allow the United States to better harness the existing swath of renewable and nonrenewable energy sources that are available. Solar technology can be part of the solution, which is why I was eager to visit Calibrant Energy today to learn more about the important work they are doing to expand affordable solar energy options for commercial projects throughout the nation."

There are 19 solar energy companies that call Florida's 12th Congressional District home, and 11,219 solar-related jobs throughout the state of Florida. The total annual economic impact of the solar energy industry throughout the state is $11.25 billion.
