Katko: The Biden Administration Has No Plan to Address the Crisis at the Southwest Border

Statement

Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Immigration

Rep. John Katko (R-NY), Ranking Member of the House Committee, released the following statement in response to the Biden administration's reckless decision to terminate the Trump administration's 'Remain in Mexico' policy, or Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP).

"Despite a record number of illegal border crossings, including encounters with known or suspected terrorists, the Biden administration continues to abandon any attempt to secure the Southwest border. Border Patrol agents are being left powerless as President Biden, "Border Czar' Vice President Kamala Harris, and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) continue to strip Customs and Border Protection (CBP) of critical tools that have been proven help to manage the staggering of migrants into our country. The Biden administration's only plan to address the crisis at the Southwest border is to release migrants into communities across the U.S.

"The only way to secure our border and help end the crisis President Biden has created is to fully reimplement and enforce MPP in conjunction with Title 42, physical barriers, and more resources for Border Patrol agents who have been abandoned by this administration. The American Security Task Force (ASTF) recently unveiled its legislative recommendations to address the worsening crisis at the Southwest border created by the Biden administration's reckless and dangerous border security policies. When House Republicans take back the majority in the House next Congress, we fully intend to see these critical policies reinstated."
