CONGRESSMAN HENRY CUELLAR ANNOUNCES $439,829.61 FOR HARLANDALE ISD

Washington, DC- Congressman Henry Cuellar today announced $439,829.61 for Harlandale Independent School District. The funds, which will be used for Internal Connections and Internal Connection Maintenance, will do a great deal to further Internet capability within the covered schools.

"These funds can be used for basic and long distance telephone services, internet access, and cellular telephones," Congressman Cuellar stated. "The importance of each of these services cannot be underestimated. For the safety and well-being of all staff and students, telephone service, both land lines and cellular telephones, are essential," Cuellar added.

Congressman Cuellar continued, "No school can be without internet access in the 21st century - for research, online curriculum access, and web-based programming. The internet plays an integral role in education, and these funds are essential in promoting students' capacity for independent learning by giving them access to increasingly important technologies."

The funds were obtained through the School and Libraries program of the Universal Service Administrative Company, which is maintained through contributions made by telecommunications providers across the country and extends discounts to assist most schools and libraries in the United States to obtain affordable telecommunications and Internet access.

These funds will go a long way in updating technology services throughout HISD to help students achieve academic success. Congressman Cuellar noted, "I look forward to continuing to work with HISD to bring home federal resources that benefit education in the Alamo City."
