Issues: Immigration

Senator Tom Cotton (R-Arkansas) introduced an amendment to the upcoming budget reconciliation bill that would cut $500 million currently allocated by the bill to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for "sustainability and environmental programs." The amendment then directs $400 million to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for detaining single, adult criminal aliens.

"This bill funnels $500 million to DHS for something completely unrelated to its mission: doing the bidding of environmental activists. My amendment would take the Democrats' green bucks and give it instead to our officers at ICE so they can get the illegal-immigration crisis under control," said Cotton.
