LARSON AGAIN VOTES TO DEFEND REPRODUCTIVE FREEDOM

Press Release

Date: July 15, 2022
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Abortion

Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) voted for the House passage of two bills to defend women's rights and reproductive freedom. He voted for The Women's Health Protection Act (H.R.8296) for a second time to once again make the protections of Roe v. Wade the law of the land and TheEnsuring Women's Right to Reproductive Freedom Act (H.R. 8297) to stop Republicans from criminalizing, fining or suing women who exercise their constitutional right to travel across state lines to obtain an abortion.

"A woman's health care decisions are to be made between her and her doctor, not dictated by the government," said Larson. "Republicans across the nation are criminalizing abortion while plotting a nationwide ban that will put doctors behind bars and punish women for seeking the health care they need. Connecticut has already taken bold action to become a safe harbor for women from restrictive states seeking reproductive care, and this legislation would give similar protections nationally.

"I voted for these bills today because there is no more time to lose - we need to protect the right to safe and legal abortion now," Larson continued. "I urge my Senate colleagues to no longer hide behind the filibuster, pass this legislation immediately, and right the 50-year setback of women's bodily autonomy."
