"From our own community, the parents of Sandy Hook and Mothers United Against Violence are our most eloquent spokespeople who have been demanding action for years," said Larson. "Today, we did just that by passing a gun-safety package that will keep firearms out of the hands of dangerous people and invest in safer schools.

"The House has passed multiple gun-safety bills that have died or not been taken up by the Senate," Larson continued. "This legislation is the best the Senate could do, and although this bill does not go as far as we must, it will still make a difference in Americans' lives when the President signs it into law. I want to commend Senator Murphy for his role in this legislation today and encourage Senate Democrats to keep up the fight on passing gun safety legislation."
