LARSON COMMENDS SENATORS FOR GUN SAFETY FRAMEWORK, CALLS FOR REFORM

Statement

Date: June 13, 2022
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Guns

"Senator Murphy is to be commended for his efforts to get Senate Republicans on board to save lives from gun violence," said Larson. "The framework this bipartisan group has put forward is a step in the right direction but underscores how important it is to stay the course for gun violence prevention.

"As important, and as both Senators Murphy and Blumenthal have advocated, a change in the filibuster and cloture vote is needed," Larson continued. "The House has passed legislation, which addresses ten major policies that have never been considered for a vote in the Senate. The effort remains to reform the cloture and filibuster rules."

Over the past year, the House has passed legislation to improve background checks and close the Charleston and boyfriend loopholes. Last week, the House passed the Protecting Our Kids Act, which included Rep. Rosa DeLauro's Ethan's Law, and the Federal Extreme Risk Protection Order Act to address the gun violence epidemic in America.
