Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) voted for the Federal Extreme Risk Protection Order Act (H.R. 2377) to keep guns out of the hands of those who pose a threat to themselves or others.

"The U.S. House of Representatives has acted, yet again, to save American lives from the tragedies of gun violence," said Larson. "So often before these shootings, there are warning signs and opportunities to intervene. Connecticut has already enacted a similar law, and I'm proud to vote to codify this at a federal level.

"Once again, I urge the Senate vote and stop standing in the way of saving lives. This bill is commonsense legislation that will remove firearms from dangerous situations, and it must become law," Larson continued.

The Federal Extreme Risk Protection Order Act would allow medical professionals, law enforcement, and family members to petition a federal court for an extreme risk protection order to temporarily remove access to firearms for an individual who is deemed a danger to themselves or others. Additionally, it incentivizes states to have their own extreme risk laws. Yesterday, with Rep. Larson's support, the House passed the Protecting Our Kids Act, a package of safety bills to address the gun violence epidemic in America.
