Congressman Lamborn Opposes Democrats' Extreme Abortion Agenda

Date: July 15, 2022
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Abortion

Today, Congressman Lamborn voted against two bills that are part of the Democrats' radical abortion agenda; H.R. 8296, the Abortion on Demand Until Birth Act and H.R. 8297, the Ensuring Access to Abortion Act. These bills would undermine the health and safety of women and legalize abortions up until the time of birth all across the country.

"While more than a dozen state legislatures have implemented life saving measures for unborn children and their mothers since the historic Dobbs ruling, Democrats and the abortion industry are spreading fear in an attempt to push their anti-life agenda, including the Abortion on Demand Until Birth Act, which has already failed three times." Said Congressman Lamborn, "Although nearly 70% of Americans oppose abortion without restrictions, these bills attempt to remove protections for women, allow for discriminatory abortions based on a baby's sex, race, and disability, and enshrine a virtually unlimited "right' to abortion in federal law. Today's votes demonstrate just how out of touch Democrats are with the American people."

The Abortion on Demand Until Birth Act:

-Creates a national standard to allow for abortions of unborn children for any reason and at any stage of pregnancy up until birth.
-Allows discriminatory abortions based on a baby's sex, race, and disability.
-Overrides pro-life laws and prohibits states from enacting legislation that protects unborn children, such as protections for babies with Down syndrome and other disabilities.
-Removes commonsense protections for women and children. For example, the Abortion on Demand Until Birth Act would not allow states to enact laws to ensure parental involvement for minors or laws to protect women from coercion.
-Includes vague language that could weaken conscience protections for medical professionals and limit their right to refuse to participate in an abortion.

The Democrats' Ensuring Access to Abortion Act:

-Does nothing to explicitly prevent an unrelated adult or sexual abuser from taking a minor out of state for an abortion.
-Undermines mandatory reporting laws in every state that require health professionals, social workers, and schools to report child abuse, sexual abuse, and neglect, which could be seen as delaying or hindering access to an abortion.
-Undermines the ability of states to hold sexual abusers accountable.
-Undermines parental consent for minors to travel across state lines. As a result, parents can be targeted by the federal government and sued for wanting to help their child and asking them to delay traveling out of state to get an abortion.
-Undermines the health and safety of women by overriding the majority of states that have determined it is safest for doctors to prescribe pills for a chemical abortion. Eliminating medical supervision puts women and minors at increased risk if they need care for severe bleeding, infection, or surgical intervention.
-Stops states from preventing abortion pill mills and gives human traffickers and abusers more direct access to chemical abortions in all 50 states.
