Hoeven Helps Introduce Legislation to Prevent Costly Federal Regulations on Energy Development, Help Ensure Fact-Based Rulemaking

Senator John Hoeven today joined Senator James Lankford (R-Okla.) in introducing the Transparency and Honesty in Energy Regulations Act of 2022. This legislation prohibits the federal government from using the flawed social cost of carbon, social cost of methane, social cost of nitrous oxide or the social cost of any other emission metrics in justification of regulations.

"American energy production is being stifled due to the Biden administration using biased estimates to justify burdensome regulations. Our legislation would help ensure that energy and environmental regulations are based on factual scientific standards rather than the social cost of carbon, a subjective metric which lacks oversight and transparency and is used to hide the true economic costs of a regulation," said Senator Hoeven.

In addition to Lankford and Hoeven, the legislation was introduced by Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.), Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.), Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), Steve Daines (R-Mont.), Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.), John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), John Cornyn (R-Texas), Roy Blunt (R-Mo.), Roger Marshall (R-Kan.), and Jim Risch (R-Idaho).
