Dear Friends,

While the calendar says spring has arrived, the winter weather continues and it's certainly making travel difficult! I kicked off the week on the road in Independence, Waterloo and Mason City, making my way west just before the snow started.

On Tuesday morning I began the day in Storm Lake for coffee at the Lakeshore Café. I was able to catch up with my county chair, Gary Launderville. He's a great, hard-working member of Team Nussle who braved the snow to talk about volunteer efforts in Buena Vista County. It's critically important we get everyone active and involved!

I also had a great discussion with Sandy Johnson about the need to connect Iowa's educational system with careers in our state. Her daughter, like too many of Iowa's young people, left the state in search of opportunity. Her story is like many others I have heard, and is why as governor, I will work to provide our students limitless possibilities right here at home. We need to foster creativity and innovation so that the jobs of the future are available here in Iowa.

Before long, we were back on the road headed to Le Mars. Bob met up with us at The Family Table, where we met with Sheriff Mike Van Otterloo, GOP County Chair Don Kass and one of my campaign chairs, Ralph Klemme. Ralph is doing a great job organizing volunteers. He's a valued member of Team Nussle!

We ended the day at the Iowa Pork Producers dinner in Plymouth County, where clearly the weather didn't keep people away! Bill Schroeder and Tommy Thompson took the time to introduce me to some new folks from the area. I also ran into Dave Bierman who is helping me out in Cherokee County. Meeting so many new people and seeing old friends was a great way to end the day.

This has been a great week out on the road so far. I'm just hoping for spring weather to arrive soon!
