We write today in support of the State of Montana's request that Carbon, Park, and Stillwater counties be designated for Individual Assistance under the major disaster declaration, DR-4655-MT, which President Biden approved on June 16, 2022.
As you know, catastrophic flooding, fueled by heavy rainfall and snowmelt that began on June 10, 2022, has caused significant damage or destruction to 115 primary residences and critical infrastructure across southwestern Montana. As the water begins to recede and the full scope of the devastation begins to grow clearer, it is essential that the federal government waste no time in meeting the pressing needs of the impacted communities. By granting the additional assistance the state has determined is required, the impacted communities can begin to recover and rebuild.
We urge prompt approval of this request that Carbon, Park, and Stillwater counties be designated for Individual Assistance and look forward to your timely response.
