Issues: Guns

Today, June 24th, Representative Susan Wild (PA-07) voted to pass the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, a historic piece of gun violence prevention legislation that will protect America's children, keep our schools safe, and reduce the threat of gun violence across the country.

"After 26 years of inaction on legislation that would address the horrors our nation has suffered due to gun violence, I was proud to cast my vote in support of the commonsense Bipartisan Safer Communities Act," said Rep. Wild. "This legislation will save lives and is a critical step forward in ensuring Americans are safe in their schools, houses of worship, grocery stores, and community gathering places."

The Bipartisan Safer Communities Act includes $750 million in funding state crisis intervention centers, protections for victims of domestic violence through closure of the "boyfriend loophole," new gun trafficking criminal statutes, enhanced background checks for people under 21, a clarified definition of what constitutes as a federally licensed firearms dealer, and $250 million in funding for community based anti-violence community initiatives. The legislation also includes investments in children and family mental health services and increased funding for schools to expand mental health and supportive services.
