McCaul Opposes Partisan Efforts That Endanger Bipartisan Senate Legislation

Press Release

Date: June 9, 2022
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Guns

Today, Congressman Michael McCaul (TX-10) released the following statement after the House vote on H.R. 7910, a partisan bill aimed at stripping law abiding gun owners of their constitutionally guaranteed right to bear arms. This legislation has no chance of passing in the Senate and has the potential to threaten ongoing bipartisan negotiations in the Senate.

"The shooting in Uvalde was a horrific tragedy, and the American people deserve a better and more thoughtful response than this. While the Senate has engaged in good faith negotiations, House Democrats have once again engaged in a partisan exercise without input from the minority. I am hopeful the Senate can bring a compromise to the floor. Until then, I cannot support any measures in the House that could endanger those efforts and that have no chance of becoming law."
