Dr. Joyce Announces $250,000 in Grant Funding to Support Drug Free Communities in Altoona and Johnstown

Press Release

Date: July 8, 2022
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman John Joyce M.D. (PA-13) announced that the Cities of Altoona and Johnstown will both receive $125,000 in funding from the Drug-Free Communities Support Program. The funding in Altoona will go to the Blair County Drug and Alcohol Program, and the funding in Johnstown will go to the Cambria County Drug Coalition.

"Right now, drug overdoses are the number one killer of Americans under the age of 45. With the unbridled flow of lethal drugs, such as fentanyl, flowing through our porous Southern border, this funding to fight against the drug crisis and protect our communities is essential" said Dr. Joyce. "I am proud of the work that is being done by both the Blair County Drug and Alcohol Program and Cambria County Drug Coalition to keep our communities and neighbors safe."

The Center for Disease Control, Office of National Drug Control Policy, and the Drug-Free Communities Support Program provide grant funding designed to combat an area's unique challenges with identifying and responding to drug problems. The cities of Johnstown and Altoona will both receive $125,000 to fight against youth substance abuse and strengthen community relationships with local and state authorities. In total, ten Pennsylvania localities are receiving grants as part of the program to help address the crisis that we face.
