Dr. Bucshon's Statement on President Biden's Strategic Petroleum Reserve Release Announcement

U.S. Representative Larry Bucshon, M.D. (R-Ind.-08), released the following statement after President Biden announced his plan yesterday to release one million barrels of oil per day, for the next six months, from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) to combat rising gas prices in America.

"Since President Biden and Congressional Democrats took control of every lever of the federal government, they have reversed critical policies supporting American energy. President Biden's decision to release one million barrels of oil per day from the SPR will not even come close to compensating for the roughly 19.78 million barrels America uses per day. Instead of depleting the SPR, President Biden and his administration need to flip the switch and unleash American energy.

"This raid of the SPR is not a long-term solution aimed at meaningfully bringing down energy prices and putting us back onto a path to energy independence. This is a short-term solution aimed at trying to lessen the political pain that President Biden and Washington Democrats are feeling as a result of their failed energy policies that have caused energy prices to skyrocket for hard-working American families," said Dr. Bucshon.
