Congressman André Carson applauded President Biden's nomination of Judge Doris Pryor to serve on the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals, which includes the states of Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin. Rep. Carson formally recommended her for this role. She is the first African-American woman nominated to serve on this court. She currently serves as a Magistrate Judge for the Southern District of Indiana.

"I send my congratulations to Judge Pryor on her well-deserved nomination, and I thank President Biden for selecting her for this vital addition to our federal courts," said Rep. Carson. "I recommended her for this role because I have seen how much she does in service to her fellow Hoosiers, and I know she will do her absolute best to administer equal justice for all in this judgeship when she is confirmed. In order to reduce the inequalities in our justice system, we must continue to uplift public servants like Judge Pryor. I'm confident that her background, extensive experience, and commitment to fairness will help advance this goal for countless Americans."

Judge Pryor was appointed U.S. Magistrate Judge for the Southern District of Indiana in March of 2018. Prior to her appointment to the bench, she was employed as the National Security Chief for the United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Indiana and had served in that role since September 2014. From August 2006 until her appointment as National Security Chief, she served as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana. From August 2005 through August 2006, Judge Pryor served as a Deputy Public Defender in the State of Arkansas Public Defender's Commission. She also has served two terms as a law clerk, for Judge J. Leon Holmes in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas (August 2004-August 2005), and for Chief Judge Lavenski Smith of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit (August 2003-August 2004).

Judge Pryor was born in Hope, Arkansas, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1999 from the University of Central Arkansas, where she majored in political science. She obtained her law degree from the Indiana University Maurer School of Law in 2003 and was admitted to the bar the same year. Judge Pryor has since been admitted to practice in numerous state and federal courts, including Indiana.
