Foxx Torches DOL's Move to Quash Independent Contractors

Today, Education and Labor Committee Republican Leader Virginia Foxx (R-NC) issued the following statement in response to the Department of Labor's (DOL) announcement that it plans to engage in rulemaking that would determine the status of independent contactors under the Fair Labor Standards Act:

"The Biden administration's aversion towards the nearly 19 million Americans who currently act as their own bosses through the independent contractor model is contemptible. Instead of issuing edicts that hurt independent contractors, this administration would do well to empower America's workforce.

"Stripping independent contractors of entrepreneurial opportunities and flexibility reeks of bureaucratic rot. The DOL acts as if hardworking Americans are not to be trusted with how they choose to live their lives. If our country's workforce is to make a comeback, the federal government should be far removed."
