Rep. Frankel Statement on SCOTUS Ruling Reducing EPA's Ability to Regulate Pollution

Press Release

Date: July 1, 2022
Location: West Palm Beach, FL

Today, Congresswoman Lois Frankel (FL-21) released the following statement after the Supreme Court released an opinion in response to West Virginia v. EPA, gutting the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) authority to regulate greenhouse gas emissions from power plants.

"Another day, another horrific Supreme Court ruling," said Rep. Frankel. "President Biden and Democrats have fought hard to reduce pollution, advance climate solutions, and expand affordable clean energy through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which is why this ruling is especially damaging and frustrating. Stripping the EPA of its power to regulate greenhouse gas emissions cuts our ability to address the climate crisis off at the knees. The fight's not over yet, though: We will continue to use every tool in our toolbox to preserve our planet for future generations."

The decision comes after 2021 was listed as the sixth-warmest year ever recorded and the Atlantic is expected to experience its seventh straight hurricane season of above-normal storm activity.
