Foxx on the Return of Card Check

Press Release

Date: April 13, 2022
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Education and Labor Committee Republican Leader Virginia Foxx (R-NC) issued the following statement on National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) General Counsel Jennifer Abruzzo's latest endeavor on behalf of the Biden administration to expand union membership by urging the NLRB to overturn 50 years of precedent and reinstate the 1949 Joy Silk Mills standard, which empowers the NLRB to impose union representation on workers without an official election:

"The return of Joy Silk would exhume a broken policy which hurts employers, gives more power to union bosses, and opens workers up to bullying and intimidation. This policy gives another weapon to Big Labor and will hurt job creators still struggling to recover from the pandemic.

"Implementing Joy Silk will undermine a cornerstone of fair elections: the secret ballot. Card check schemes make workers vulnerable to reprisal and intimidation. No American should be stripped of his or her right to a secret ballot, nor should any worker be coerced into supporting unionization. This is an anti-worker scheme that will hurt both workers and employers.

"It's about time this administration learns the difference between pro-worker and pro-union boss."
