Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement today following the announcement that Ann Pesiri Swanson will retire on November 21, 2022, as Executive Director of the Chesapeake Bay Commission:

"Ann is a friend of mine and tremendous advocate for Maryland's beloved Chesapeake Bay. I join many of her friends and colleagues in thanking her for her years of service and contributions to our state as the Executive Director of the Chesapeake Bay Commission.

"For four decades, Ann's dedication to improving the environment and her leadership on the Commission has advanced the restoration of the Chesapeake Bay and made it more sustainable for future generations. Her legislative accomplishments have inspired communities around the state and the country, and have led to solutions to address environmental restoration challenges. So many people were touched by Ann's work, and her honors and accolades are numerous: Admiral of the Chesapeake, Lifetime Achievement Award from the Chesapeake Conservancy, and an Honorary Doctor of Laws from her alma mater, the University of Vermont.

"Though so many will miss Ann, she leaves behind a great legacy. I wish her the best in her retirement come November, and hope that she is as proud of herself for her work as we are."
