Wyden Supports Jackson Nomination

Statement

Date: March 31, 2022
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Judicial Branch

Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., issued the following statement in support of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson's nomination to the United States Supreme Court:

"Following today's meeting with Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, I'm pleased to officially announce my support of her historic nomination to the Supreme Court.

"We had a productive meeting where Judge Jackson's deep knowledge of the law and fair-minded judicial temperament were clear. In particular, we had a good discussion about when judges should defer to the executive branch on national security matters.

"Judge Jackson is one of the most qualified Supreme Court nominees I've seen, and I am dismayed by the offensive attacks she was subjected to by my Republican colleagues looking to boost their potential 2024 campaigns by appealing to conspiracy theorists and wingnuts. She handled the smears with poise and determination that showcased her impeccable character.

"The Supreme Court's credibility is on shaky ground, with the Court increasingly open to wild theories that would entrench minority rule, gut the Voting Rights Act, and overturn women's constitutional right to abortion. Judge Jackson will be a critically important voice on the Court."
