Issues: Guns

Today, Congresswoman Linda T. Sánchez (D-CA) released the following statement following passage of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, which the Senate approved last night and now heads to President Biden's desk to be signed into law:

"Today, I proudly voted to pass the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act--the first major gun control legislation in more than two decades. For the families in Uvalde, Buffalo, Laguna Woods, and countless other communities affected by gun violence, this legislation is welcome and long overdue," said Congresswoman Linda T. Sánchez. "The Bipartisan Safer Communities Act will enhance background checks for buyers under age 21, give states more funding to keep guns out of the hands of dangerous individuals, and expand access to mental health services. These are small yet important steps that will help us achieve a much larger goal: putting an end to the gun violence crisis in America. Now is the time to keep up this momentum. I am heartened by the progress made today, and I will keep fighting alongside my colleagues in Congress to enact more commonsense gun reform legislation."
