Burgess: President Biden's Budget Shows He Does Not Value Ending the Crises Facing Americans

Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX) released the following statement after President Biden sent his fiscal year 2023 budget request to Congress.

"President Biden once remarked on the late Senator McCain's policies -- "Don't tell me what you value. Show me your budget, and I'll tell you what you value.' The President's budget clearly shows he is not concerned about putting an end to each of the crises he created since entering office," said Burgess. "American families are struggling with the hard decision of whether to buy groceries, fill their gas tanks, or pay their ever growing electric bill."

"Americans are facing an energy crisis. Instead of reversing the anti-American production of energy, the President continues to make us more reliant on foreign oil, including on countries that sponsor terrorist organizations. Additionally, the state of our southern border is the worst that I have ever seen. Instead of repaying Texas for its efforts to secure the border, President Biden continues to illuminate the 'Open Now' sign he proudly placed there.

"This budget will further drive inflation. There is over $340 billion remaining in unobligated COVID-19 funding, but instead of using those funds to cover other parts of his expensive budget, President Biden requested an additional $22 billion in COVID-19 spending. If we want to put an end to inflation, Congress must stop its reckless spending spree.

"President Biden's budget shows he values partisan spending priorities instead of ending the crises that are affecting Americans' pocketbooks."
