Rep. Axne and New Democrat Coalition Release Comprehensive Action Plan to Fight Inflation and Cut Costs for Iowans

This week, Rep. Cindy Axne (IA-03) and the New Democrat Coalition (NDC) released a comprehensive action plan to fight inflation and lower the cost of living for Iowans. This morning, the Consumer Price Index for May was released, showing that prices increased 1% for the month. This increase was heavily driven by higher energy prices since Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

The plan is the result of work Rep. Axne and the rest of the Inflation Working Group have done starting early this year. This plan outlines tangible steps federal policymakers can take to reduce prices on essential goods and services and provide relief to Iowa families, workers and businesses, as well as the actions the Biden Administration and Congressional Democrats have already taken to cut costs.

Those actions include steps to strengthen global supply chains, lower energy and food prices, get more people back to work and support workforce training, and reduce the cost of prescription drugs.

"The war in Ukraine has exacerbated significant supply chain issues leading to record inflation that is hitting Iowa families hard at the gas pump and the grocery store. That's why I've been working with the New Democrat Coalition's Inflation Working Group since early this year on ways to lower costs," said Rep. Axne. "We've released an Inflation Action Plan that outlines key actions to address the urgent challenges Iowans face, and to lower prices for Iowa families. I know the financial burdens Iowans are facing right now are stressful and time-sensitive, which is why I will be working to implement this plan and the action items in my Supply Chain Solutions Agenda as soon as possible."

The comprehensive action plan takes a multi-pronged approach to lower prices by strengthening supply chains, addressing labor shortages, reducing trade barriers, and making everyday necessities more affordable.

New Dems will work closely with the Biden administration, Senators and Representatives on both sides of the aisle to fully execute this Action Plan to Fight Inflation to provide swift relief to Iowa families and set the American economy up for long-term success.

Several of these steps are also included on Rep. Axne's Supply Chain Solutions Agenda, which she first announced in November 2021.
