Rep. Welch's Statement on Elon Musk's Purchase of Twitter

Rep. Peter Welch (D-Vt.) released the following statement on Elon Musk's purchase of Twitter.

"When more than 75 million Americans get their news from Twitter, that information should not be subject to the whims of an individual owner. It may be legal for the world's richest man to buy Twitter but it's wrong: bad for democracy, bad for civic engagement, wrong for just about everything. It's long past time we created a dedicated government agency to regulate and address the wide range of issues raised by social media platforms like the one Elon Musk just purchased. That's why I am working on legislation to create a federal agency to do just that."
