Hinson Statement on EPA Rule Undermining Renewable Fuel Standard

Statement

Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Environment

Congresswoman Ashley Hinson (IA-01) released the following statement after the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) finalized Renewable Volume Obligations (RVOs) for 2020, 2021, and 2022.

"The EPA's announcement undermines the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) and fails to provide certainty for Iowa biofuels producers. These requirements should have been finalized long ago by the deadlines as directed by the RFS. While I'm glad to see higher blending requirements for 2021 and 2022, this rule sets a dangerous precedent that the EPA can retroactively modify blending requirements and leave our producers in limbo. We need to pass my bipartisan Defend the Blend Act to ensure finalized rules can't be changed. I am proud to represent a community that understands blending more ethanol will lower prices at the pump and reduce carbon emissions. I will never stop advocating for Iowa biofuels in Congress." -- Congresswoman Ashley Hinson
